A hotel poster

April 29, 2008

Small cafes or diners are called “hotels” in Kenya.  After working on a cow pen on Saturday, the work crew went to a local hotel for lunch.  One poster inside the hotel had a picture of a two year old boy holding a cell phone.  Underneath in beautiful cursive letters it read:

Happiness is a thing to be practiced, like the violin.

Life is too short; love is too sacred.

April 23, 2008

Life is too short to spend even one day of it in bickering and strife. Love is too sacred to be forever lacerated and torn by the ugly briers of sharp temper. Surely we ought to learn to be patient with others, since God has to show every day such infinite patience toward us.

One last American Idol quote…

April 22, 2008

Again, I give you Simon Cowell:  “If your lifeguard duties were as good as your singing, a lot of people would be drowning.”

Here are my thoughts on “Idol Gives Back” and other charities in Africa.  Strangers In Kenya

Another one from Simon Cowell

“I’ve been known to call someone the worst singer in the world…but you by far are the worst singer in the universe.”

Watching a DVD of American Idol last week sure got me thinking…is all this charity good for Africa?  Everyone has sympathy for the problems of Africans, but how do people actually view the people themselves?  Read more here.  Strangers in Kenya

Great quote from AMAZING GRACE movie

April 17, 2008

“It’s a sad fate for a man to die too well-known to everybody else and still unknown to himself.

Francis Bacon

If you haven’t seen it, it’s a beautiful movie about loving the poorest and the lowliest of mankind…and anytime people are loving Africans, it’s beautiful to me.

Discerning Reader review

April 13, 2008

I received another “professional” review of my book this week.  Check it out.  I think he understood the purpose of the book but he had some valid criticism as well.

Still in need

April 3, 2008

We need English teachers for next year.  If you are a secondary English teacher or know of one and would like to serve missionaries in Africa for one year, please drop me a line.  We’re getting desperate.  The next school year is just 4 months away, and we have two gaping wholes in our high school faculty.

 Thanks.
